Cookie policy

How this site uses cookies, including Google Analytics.

This site is operated by Pencombe Associates Ltd. We use cookies only as described here. Necessary cookies run so the site works. Google Analytics and other optional cookies wait for your choice.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. Similar technologies (local storage, pixels, tags) are treated the same way on this site. UK law — the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, read with UK GDPR — requires consent before any cookie that is not strictly necessary.

This site has no comments and no visitor accounts. There is no login page for the public. Only administrators sign in to WordPress to edit the site, and the cookies that come with that login are not set for ordinary visitors.

How we ask

The first time you visit, a banner offers Accept all, Reject optional, and Customise, with equal weight on accept and reject. Nothing optional is pre-ticked. You can change your mind at any time from Cookie settings in the footer, from the form on this page, or by clearing the gk_consent cookie.

Your choice is stored for six months. If we change the categories or the version of this policy in a material way, we will ask again.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used — which pages are read, how people arrive, and where they leave. Google is the provider. The cookies it sets (_ga, _ga_* and _gid) can last up to two years.

Analytics cookies are off until you accept that category. Until then, Google Consent Mode v2 tells Google that analytics storage is denied, so those cookies must not be set. Accepting analytics updates that signal. Rejecting optional cookies leaves it denied. You can change this later from Cookie settings.

Google Consent Mode

Google tags on this site, including Google Analytics, run in Consent Mode v2. Until you accept analytics or marketing, Google is told that storage is denied. Accepting a category updates that signal. Rejecting optional cookies leaves it denied.

The categories

  • Necessary — required to run the site, to remember this choice, and (for administrators only) to stay signed in to WordPress. Always on for visitors in the form of the consent cookie and a WordPress test cookie.
  • Preferences — remembers non-essential settings. Off until you choose.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics, so we can see how the site is used. Off until you choose.
  • Marketing — YouTube embeds and any advertising or conversion tags. These can track you across sites. Off until you choose. Videos stay behind a gate until this category is accepted.
